War and Farewells

Description

Not HTTYD, but something else close to my heart: World War II and the goodbyes that the war forced upon so many men and women. I did this for my art class. It is based off a photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt, Pennsylvania Station, ca. 1943.

Pen and graphite, editing in Photoshop.

When I first saw this painting, I thought it was a photo with a filter applied to it. I compared it with the original photo just to make sure, and you definitely did a great job at catching the proportions of the main characters. What spoils the experience a bit though is the man's head in the background on the left. I think you made the ear-jaw distance too big. I also love the cloth detail, and the overall lighning of the scene, which is very decent. The most important component of art - the storytelling - is clear. War destroys families, it always has, and it always will. It makes me ask a question: Why do a few individuals wage often unnecessary wars? Who benefits from wars and violence?

You achieved this in 4 hours while a professional 3D artist would achieve this in maybe 3-4 days, when compared to my field of interest.

Amazing stuff.
